چکیده
Over the last decades a divide seems to have emerged in the cognitive sciences between embodied and symbolic approaches to language understanding. Embodied approaches argue that language comprehension requires activation of our experiences with the world, whereas symbolic approaches argue that language comprehension relies on interdependencies of words. The current paper argues that language comprehension is both embodied and symbolic. According to the symbol interdependency hypothesis comprehenders can ultimately ground symbols, but they also can rely on interdependencies across symbols as a shortcut to the meaning of words. An overview is given of the evidence supporting this hypothesis suggesting that embodied representations are activated under certain conditions and ultimately tend to be encoded in language structures. Attempts to answer the question to what extent language comprehension is embodied or symbolic are not new. For instance, around 360 BC, Plato describes a discussion between Cratylus, Hermogenes, and Socrates, with Socrates asking:

Background: In high-intensity, mixed and pulsed neutron fields the use of spectrometers or area monitors with active detectors is useless in these conditions neutron measuring devices must have a passive detector. Here a passive neutron area monitor with CR39 track detector was designed and the response was calculated. Materials and Methods: The response of a passive neutron area monitor with C...

— In this paper we consider a Schrödinger equation on the circle with a quadratic nonlinearity. Thanks to an explicit computation of the first Picard iterate, we give a precision on the dynamic of the solution, whose existence was proved by C. E. Kenig, G. Ponce and L. Vega [15]. We also show that the equation is well-posed in a space H(T) which contains the Sobolev space H(T) when p ≥ 2. Résum...
متن کاملNanotoxicity for E. Coli and Characterization of Silver Quantum Dots Produced by Biosynthesis with Eichhornia crassipes
Nanomaterials are widely used in health and biomedical applications, however, only a few studies investigate their toxic effects. The present report signifies a contribution to the study of the toxic effects of silver nanoparticles on E. coli cells, which is a model organism of anthropogenic pollution. The toxicity of nanoparticles depends on their chemical and surface properties, shape and ...
